Why Did We Choose Arctic Reindeer Tallow for Our Skincare?

Most animal-derived ingredients used in cosmetics come from farm animals raised under controlled conditions, primarily for meat and dairy production. Reindeer are entirely different.

In Finnish Lapland, reindeer live as semi-wild animals, roaming freely in the Arctic landscape and feeding on lichen, wild berries and northern plants. They are cared for by reindeer herders, whose way of life and traditions have been built around reindeer husbandry for generations, while the animals continue to live largely in their natural environment, following the rhythm of the Arctic seasons.

The reindeer tallow we use is a by-product of traditional reindeer husbandry and is available only in limited quantities each year. The tallow is carefully purified through a multi-step process we have developed before becoming a key ingredient in our products.

What Does Reindeer Tallow Do for the Skin?

Reindeer tallow contains the same types of lipids that naturally occur in the human skin barrier, including palmitic, stearic and oleic acids. In reindeer tallow, these lipids occur in a well-balanced composition that the skin can utilize effectively. Reindeer tallow supports the function of the skin barrier and helps protect the skin from environmental stressors, as demonstrated in clinical studies.

Because of these properties, reindeer tallow is particularly well suited for dry, sensitive, reactive and compromised skin.
